I have chosen three people as contemporary icons. They are Oprah Winfrey, she is a talk show hostess and humanitarian. The second person I chose was Hillary Clinton, she is a senator and is running for a seat on the presidential ballot. The third person I chose was Walt Disney, he is the maker of another icon Mickey Mouse and a brilliant cartoonist.

I chose Oprah Winfrey as an icon because she is the biggest talk show hostess of all time. Oprah is not only a talk show hostess, she has her own magazine and televsion network. Oprah is unbelievably generous, she has opend a girls school in Africa for young women. She is an amazing person and a role model for many young women. She is an inspiration to me to be the best person I can possible be each and every day of my life.
The second amazing person I chose was Hillary Clinton. She is an amazingly smart woman. For a woman to break into the senate is amazing in itself but Hillary is more than just a senator. Hillary was the brains behind the 1st Clinton administration in my opinion. She has dealt with a lot of criticism and has the guts to stand up to that criticism. I believe she is a very admirable woman running for a spot on the ballot for President of the United States of America. I hope she gets it. Hillary Clinton is another great role model for young aspiring women politician. She inspires me to never quit fighting for what you believe in.
The last person I chose as an icon is Walt Disney. Walt Disney basically transformed the cartoon world. He is an amazingly brilliant cartoonist who created many popular figures that will be remembered forever. He not only transformed the cartoon world he made family entertainment wholesome. I remember as a child gathering around the televison for the weekly Disney movie that was on. I loved those days. Walt Disney will forever be remembered as the greatest cartoonist ever.REFERENCES

I like the icons you chose for this assignment. I believe Oprah has touch the lives of many. If you have only watched one progam, I'm sure you walked away with some new piece of information. Even though Oprah has been around for quite awhile I believe she is still in the realm of contemporary icons because she continues to provide information relevant to the issues of today.
Hilary is definatley a contemporoary icon, paving the way for future women. Not only has she proven that women can make a difference in politics, but that women can be successful and powerful.
I'm not sure I would consider Walt Disney a contemporary icon, but definatley an everlasting icon. How would are lives have been shpaed if there was no Walt Disney? I can't imagine.
